I really like this. The rule of thirds photo is really beautiful. The statue is very interesting and the tree on the opposite side give the photo good balance. The photo with the statue in the center almost looks like a completely different statue, because of the shadow on it and the angle of the photo is different. Both photos are well done.
I agree with Jami, the third rule photo is gorgeous! And I do also really like the straight on shot, I like that you took it from below. It's shot as if the person is looking up at the statue in worship.
These are both awesome shots! The one where the statue is in thirds, has beautiful color and depth. The straight on shot is beautiful as well, if only the statue was a little brighter. These are some really great shots, you should be proud!
Very dramatic! I agree with the others that both photographs work really well in their own way. Showing the effects of how the rule of thirds works, is best achieved by not significantly altering the other environmental factors. Take one shot with your subject centered, move that subject into one of the rule of thirds areas and take another. With these two photographs you have significantly altered the lighting and the scale, which is fine, but you have introduced too many variables to be able to see the effects of the rule of thirds in an apples to apples comparison. That's fine, that's what art is all about. Exploration and discovery are the hallmarks of a creative mind… Don't stop.
